Activities with pupils on the International Day for Biological Diversity

Velipoje (Shkoder)- Staff members of Leveraging the Capacities of CSOs in the North of Albania for betterment of biodiversity and environment protection” project organized a range of activities with pupils of "Gjergj Vatë Martini" middle school in Velipojës to sensitize them on the paramount importance of biodiversity protection. This event was organized to celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity. The staff members explained to the participants basic concepts and importance of biodiversity. Environmental education games were also held to identify loss of biodiversity because of human activity and also ways to protect it. Leaflets and posters with useful information about this issue were also distributed. The United Nations has proclaimed May 22 The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. When first created by the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly in late 1993, 29 December (the date of entry into force of the Convention of Biological Diversity), was designated The International Day for Biological Diversity.
